In the igus robot control, users can simulate, program, and control their custom igus robots. This free software provides an easy entry into low-cost automation. Various robot kinematics, such as articulated arm robots, delta robots, or linear robots, can be programmed and controlled. A digital twin simulates the movements, allowing users to program the appropriate solution before making a purchase. igus robot hardware starts at €5,000 and includes options like linear robots with integrated control in the control cabinet.Within the igus robot control, users can freely move all axes of the digital twin using a 3D interface. The teach-in function allows easy programming even without a robot connection. Users manually position the robot and define how it should move. Compatible end effectors, such as grippers, can be added easily, with the tool center point adjusting automatically. The software enables risk-free testing and is a great solution for automation tasks in the igus CTA.

Adhesive and dispensing processes are complex operations that, when performed by humans, have a significant potential for error. This is due to the precision and consistency these processes require - attributes that are difficult to achieve when performed manually. Moreover, direct contact with the materials and substances used in these processes can lead to health issues, including skin irritations and allergic reactions.

In our most recent customer test, we demonstrated how these processes can be automated efficiently and cost-effectively. Through automation, companies can not only improve the quality and consistency of their products but also ensure the health and safety of their employees.To illustrate the automation, we simulated the process using a pen on the original component.

This served to demonstrate the accuracy and precision of the automated system. It showed how the system is capable of performing the same task over and over again with the same level of accuracy - an ability that is difficult to achieve when performed manually. This test served as compelling evidence of the benefits of automating adhesive and dispensing processes.

Precise bonding and sealing with igus room portal

The modular dispensing system with integrated igus room gantry offers an innovative solution for the precise and efficient dispensing of adhesives and sealants in prototype and series production. The use of zero-point clamping systems and measuring systems enables simple replacement of dispensing valves, tools or devices, which guarantees a high level of process reliability from batch size 1. In addition to 1-component materials from cartridges, hobbocks and drums, 2-component materials can also be applied with the right valve technology. The optional needle measurement for the automated input of offset values ensures consistent precision even after the cartridge change.

Handling and joining tasks can be programmed via the Igus Robot Control (IRC), whereby the DXF import represents an even simpler way of quickly implementing complex 2D contours in a dispensing programme in the future. An integrated weighing cell controls the dispensing process and ensures the defined adhesive quantity, thereby reducing waste and guaranteeing a consistently high quality of the dispensing process. The recurring, precise material application ensures the high quality of the dispensing process, minimising rework. Defined material application in the right place ensures sustainability through economical material consumption and reduces material waste.

This modular dispensing system revolutionises critical dispensing tasks and offers a flexible, efficient and cost-effective solution for production.

Automation of a potting process with the igus robot control software

The automated potting system for electronic assemblies from Simprop electronic Walter Claas GmbH & Co. KG uses a two-component polyurethane potting compound that completely encapsulates the electronics and protects them from dust and moisture. The system consists of a tank wagon for storing, tempering and vacuuming the components as well as a dosing head that dispenses the components in the correct mixing ratio into a static mixing tube. The potting compound runs into the housing of the assembly at the outlet of the mixing tube.

Automation has significantly reduced the manual activities at the workstation. The operators now only have to set and remove the workpiece carriers, top up the potting compound and hardener and carry out ancillary tasks at the start and end of work. This has resulted in a saving of around 60 % of working time. The sensory monitoring of the process and the PC-supported step-by-step instructions have reduced the number of operating errors to zero. The integrated production data acquisition logs the entire process and helps to identify maintenance requirements and further optimisation opportunities.

The XYZ hotmelt bonding table is an advanced solution designed to overcome the challenges of manual hotmelt bonding processes. Previously, the bonding process involved a significant amount of manual labour that had to be performed by people. As a result, the quality of the gluing samples depended heavily on the individual operator.

However, significant improvements have been achieved by automating the gluing process. Production output has doubled as the machine works continuously and efficiently. At the same time, the quality of the gluing patterns is now guaranteed as the automation eliminates the variability caused by human operation. Another advantage of automation is the reduced adhesive consumption, which leads to considerable cost savings.

The well-being of the operators has also improved. They no longer have to use manual hand guns, which reduces physical strain. In addition, the machine's user-friendly communication interface offers simple and intuitive operation. Another plus point is the machine's flexibility: the gluing patterns can be easily reprogrammed for future projects, ensuring a high level of customisation.
