In this application for a customer in the food industry, spices needed to be transferred from a tray into a carton. The challenge was the high precision required due to the tight tolerances. However, this was easily overcome with an igus gantry robot and a flow gripper. The gantry robot enabled precise and repeatable positioning of the spices, while the flow gripper ensured gentle handling of the delicate products. By combining these technologies, an efficient and reliable solution was achieved for the customer, significantly enhancing both product quality and production speed.

In the igus robot control, users can simulate, program, and control their custom igus robots. This free software provides an easy entry into low-cost automation. Various robot kinematics, such as articulated arm robots, delta robots, or linear robots, can be programmed and controlled. A digital twin simulates the movements, allowing users to program the appropriate solution before making a purchase. igus robot hardware starts at €5,000 and includes options like linear robots with integrated control in the control cabinet.Within the igus robot control, users can freely move all axes of the digital twin using a 3D interface. The teach-in function allows easy programming even without a robot connection. Users manually position the robot and define how it should move. Compatible end effectors, such as grippers, can be added easily, with the tool center point adjusting automatically. The software enables risk-free testing and is a great solution for automation tasks in the igus CTA.

 (Cartesian robot) in a customer test scenario. Our goal is to demonstrate the robot’s exceptional precision and reliability in handling small metal pins.

 Our customer, a manufacturing company, faces the challenge of assembling intricate components that involve inserting metal pins into precise locations. These pins are critical for the functionality and structural integrity of the final product. Traditional manual assembly methods are time-consuming, error-prone, and lack the required precision.

 Enter the igus Raumportalroboter. Equipped with three degrees of freedom and an 800 x 800 x 500 mm working area, this robot is designed for precision tasks. Here’s how the process unfolds:

 The successful customer test demonstrates the igus Raumportalroboter’s suitability for high-precision assembly tasks. Whether it’s metal pins, electronic components, or other delicate parts, this robot delivers consistent results, streamlining production and enhancing product quality.

In this specific customer application, the challenge was to implement two different applications within a single system. This was a complex task that required both technical expertise and innovative solutions. In the first step of the process, it was necessary to use a dosing unit to apply adhesive to the component.

This step required precision and accuracy to ensure that the adhesive was applied evenly and in the right amount. It was important that this process was carried out correctly to ensure optimal adhesion between the components. After the adhesive was applied, the same robot was then supposed to pick up the workpiece to be glued with a special Cobot pump.

This step required careful handling and positioning of the workpiece to ensure that it was correctly aligned and prepared for the gluing process. Finally, the robot was supposed to glue the workpiece with the other component. This final step was crucial to ensure a strong and durable connection between the two components. It was important that the robot was able to deliver the exact pressure and alignment required for successful bonding.

Overall, this customer application was a challenging task that required careful planning, precise execution, and innovative solutions. Despite the challenges, the result was a successfully implemented system capable of efficiently and effectively realizing two different applications.
